Scott Silverman, Kevin Ertell, and Jon Kubo will discuss retail’s hottest social trend – Social Discovery. Kevin Ertell will discuss his experiences in incorporating social curation and discovery on the Sur La Table ecommerce site and the feedback from within and outside of the company. Finally, the panel will explore what is next for Sur La Table and retailers in general when this type of customer engagement is used to its full potential.
Kevin Ertell is Senior Vice President Digital at Sur La Table, where he is responsible for ensuring the company’s direct to consumer business delivers a top notch experience to its customers. Ertell has worked exclusively in retail for more than 28 years, and has focused his expertise on e-commerce since 1997. He has previous held positions as Senior Vice President of TowerRecords.com, Senior VIce President of E-Business with Borders, Vice President of Retail Strategy at ForeSee Results and Chief Marketing Officer at OnlineShoes.com. He is a member of Shop.org’s Board of Directors and the NRF Foundation Board of Directors.
Scott Silverman is Principal at Scott Silverman Associates, where he provides relationship building and marketing support to emerging technology companies and startups focused on e-commerce and digital marketing. Silverman spent 10 years as Executive Director of Shop.org. He launched the Shop.org Annual Summit, which was named a Fastest 50 trade show. He co-invented “Cyber Monday” in 2005 and was the founder of Cybermonday.com in 2006, a shopping site that has generated more than $2.5 million for Shop.org’s scholarship fund. Silverman also co-founded Ifeelgoods, a digital rewards technology company, where he served as the VP of Marketing.
Jon Kubo is Chief Product Officer at 8thBridge, where he is responsible for product strategy. Prior to 8thBridge, he spent 6 years as the CIO of Wet Seal, Inc., parent company of Wet Seal and Arden B. During this time, he also served as head of Ecommerce for both brands, growing online revenue by over 10 times. Prior to Wet Seal, Inc., he was an EVP and Chief Administrative Officer of FAO Schwarz. While at FAO Schwarz he led the launch of their online presence, catalog, and relaunch of their retail stores. In June of 2011, Mr. Kubo was awarded The 2011 RIS Retail CIO of the Year for implementing mobile and social strategies for Wet Seal. Mr. Kubo was also named the CIO of the Year in 2010 by Oracle.
